8/4 Notes

We spent most of the meeting talking about the fundraiser, with some discussion of operations and the website.

Operations and Research

Meg and Mike are working toward a new, more focused mission.

We are working to align operating projects and procedures along the following rough organizational lines: the Calendar, Publications, and Archiving.

The Visualist Operations

We moved the discussion on workflow and training materials to the August 9th meeting when we can look at the video and discuss next steps for training materials.

The current research process is as follows: (https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jx6MSRE1JMZcL9F7rUJ6VqWvx761SG80?2.)

  • Volunteers can use the venue list to capture events, putting them into the spreadsheet (note: there should always be a double-check that events within 1–2 weeks of the research are not already on the site).

  • Once this research is done, the spreadsheet can be sorted to show the closest event first.

  • Events can be put directly into our site via https://thevisualist.org/submit/.

  • We need a volunteer form in google, so we are going to look at that for the next meeting

Marketing the Site to More People

Our double-sided flyer has been Risographed–one side focused on finding events and the other on submitting events.

They were distributed and there will be more at our next meeting

New Language for the Visualist

Fundraising

Our Fundraiser will be on Giving Thursday, December 3rd

We reviewed our fundraiser timeline

We are looking at walls turned sideways

It will be a bake sale with Santa cosplayWe want to raise funds leading up to the event which will act as a celebration for reaching our goal. We can do this through donations, if you make a donation, you can come. We will also create a venue booklet that will be available at the event, but that might be for people who make a certain donation.

Meg will take the venues out of the  spreadsheet and Trejon will do a quick mock-up so we can make a quick quote for having it done on the Riso

Meg will also open a spreadsheet for sponsorship and partners. (FUNDRAISER CONTACTS.xlsx

We want to raise at least $15,000- this will allow us to do phase 1 of the website and cover barebones operations next year.

Note: we also want to do something in spring at the Night Heron

Web Development

We would like to move forward with the proposal from made with best practice. Meg and Michael are reaching out with next steps
